Alex Pauli Q2 Project

I had a lot of fun working on this project. It was exciting to take something from the ground up and make it completely my own. Dreamweaver is a difficult program, and setting everything up was really a process. The code is confusing and I don’t think I fully understand it yet, but I did enjoy using it. Another tough aspect of this project was the amount of steps everything took. Even just these simple three screenshots took me a long time. I’d like to keep using this program so I can get better and know what I’m doing. Maybe someday I can even create my own functioning website!

E9 Elevator Pitch

What characteristics are you most interested in when hiring an applicant? I can guarantee you that I will satisfy or exceed your expectations.

I’m a hard worker and a problem solver. I am persistent and will try to complete everything I am tasked with to the best of my abilities. I work well alone or in a group setting, depending on the project at hand. Some of my best personal traits include being intelligent, a leader, a quick-learner, an achiever, and a competitor.

I taught myself a video editing program and created many sports videos for my friends to enjoy. I began creating these in 6th grade and have continued with longer films. Take a look at http://07apman.wixsite.com/ap-ecomm-edits. If you have any questions, or would like to contact me for other reasons, you can do so by email at 884aap07@students.olatheschools.com.

Thank you for your time, and I hope that you will take me into consideration when choosing a new employee!

Logo

I started this project by brainstorming ideas for different shapes and designs that my logo could be. Trying to come up with one solid idea that I really liked was tough, but I ended up choosing the simple shield with a banner behind it. Re-creating the shield I drew on paper in Adobe Illustrator did turn out to be a problem as I could not seem to find any shape that worked, but after a quick google search, I went with the red shape in the middle of the three circles (see B/W Ideas). I also created a banner to put behind the shield.
B/W Ideas
After I had a rough outline, I began to test different colors. I immediately fell in love with the two-tone blue designs. I decided on a light blue outside and a dark inside because I think it makes the "A" pop a little bit more.

Color Tests

I chose to use a shield because of the powerful connotations that it has behind it. It stands for stability, authority, and teamwork. I also decided to use a banner because it reminds me of a ribbon on a  medal that you might get after winning something. It portrays my competitiveness in sports or life in general.
The blues that I used represent my favorite soccer team's logo, (Sporting KC), but blue also stands for reliability and composure.

Typeface Anatomy

Overview: In this project, we learned about typefaces and different serifs that some fonts have. We then took this knowledge into Adobe Illustrator and labeled our names with these different serifs. I typed my first and last name with the Bodoni 72 Oldstyle font and began to label the various specific finishing strokes and other font differences. I also added the cap line, x-height, and baseline; which weren't required, but I felt they were necessary.

Color Schemes of Logos

Analogous

This logo uses the analogous colors of blue, blue-green, and green. I think the company probably chose these colors partly because their name has the word "green" in it, and to show the idea of growth that their company is about.

This logo uses the analogous colors of yellow, yellow-green, and green. I think the company probably chose greens because they want to look like a earthly, natural company.

Complementary
This logo uses the complementary colors of blue and orange. I think this team probably chose this because they want to use the colors that work well together to stand out and use orange to show power.

This logo uses the complementary colors of purple and yellow.  I think this team probably chose this because they want to use the colors that work well together to stand out and use purple to show royalty and dreams.
Warm
This logo uses the warm colors of red and yellow.  I think this company probably chose these colors because they symbolize food and can actually make people hungrier.

This logo uses the warm colors of red and yellow.  I think this team probably chose these colors because they show power, energy, and confidence.
Cool

This logo uses the cool colors of dark and light blue.  I think this team probably chose these colors because they show calmness and confidence. It also looks very professional.
This logo uses the cool colors of purple, blue, and green. I think this company chose these colors to show hope, growth, peace and learning, as well as professionalism. Monochromatic

This logo uses the monochromatic colors of dark blue, light blue, and white.  I think this team probably chose these colors because they show calmness and confidence. It portrays a team you can rely on.

This logo uses the monochromatic colors of dark brown, brown, and light brown. I think this company probably chose these colors because they portray the color of the product, (root beer), and it's a dependable color.

Triad Color

This logo uses the triad color scheme of red, yellow, and blue. I think this company probably chose these colors because they are eye-catching, and they stand for clarity, calmness, optimism, and food.

Color Wheel in Adobe Illustrator

First Adobe Illustrator Project.

1. Project
We were assigned with the task of creating our own color wheel in Adobe Illustrator. This color wheel had to consist of the three primary colors, red, yellow, and blue; as well as the three secondary colors, orange, green, and violet. It also had to contain the tertiary colors of yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet, and red-orange. The triangles and circle portrayed different color schemes.

2. Learnings
I learned how to use the basic tools in Adobe Illustrator, mainly focusing on colors and the shape tool. There are a lot of shortcuts that I've learned and more that can be learned in Illustrator that are helpful and allow for quicker and better finished products. I learned how important colors are in graphic design and how helpful they can be in making your project look better and more pleasing to the eye.

3. Result
I think that my final product turned out pretty well. I tried to focus on making everything symmetrical and that is one of the reasons that it looks decent. Next project, I will use my new learnings to make a more complex and better looking product. I now have basic knowledge that I can develop by the end of the quarter.

Chase Scene Video

Our team, consisting of me, Blake, Will, and Layne, struggled to come up with three different chase scene ideas, and couldn’t really decide on a story. We went out and discovered where we wanted to film, before figuring out what we wanted to film about. We did throw out a couple of ideas but some were too basic and others were way too advanced because we didn’t have the editing knowledge yet. We ended up settling in the middle with this idea. Our location was easy to decide on as it was exactly what we needed for our film. The woods and open field towards the school worked great for the “killer.” We agreed on a story and different shots quickly without a lot of bickering because we would all give an option and then agree on one. I have definitely gotten better at using premier pro. I can edit a lot quicker and make better films compared to some of the first ones I made. I’d love to continue making projects later in school and maybe even at home. Lastly, I’d like to talk about my team. I think we were well suited and equipped for this project as everyone in my team served an inportant role and purpose. We all worked well and really enjoyed building off of each other’s strengths.

A to B Sequence Video

Using the six basic shot types in normal photography is not too difficult, but using those sequences in a film is different and a little harder. We brainstormed the story and how we were going to get from A to B, and realized afterward that we used mostly wide shots. A close up was added with the door handle, and we tried to add some variation with the actor walking toward the camera in the scene after the stair jump. We both agreed on a storyline pretty quickly, (though it was a very simple one). The story portrayed a student moving from a classroom, (point A) to the courtyard, (point B) and finding his lost book. Editing this video was a little tough because of how long it needed to be. We should've taken more shots for fillers as I was stretching each clip to reach the one minute mark. Some of the space in between shots is too long. We also did not have a lot of sound to choose from so a better music track could've been helpful for the story. Miles and I worked well as a team, and we got everything done on time. 😃

How to Create and Print a Document Video

Our team, consisting of me, Miles, and Angilee,  started by brainstorming six picture ideas and shooting them to show how to create and print a document. These photos followed the guidelines of the six basic photography types, (extreme close-up, very close-up, close-up, over-the-shoulder, wide shot, and very wide shot). We then took these pictures and put them into a six-slide powerpoint with captions about what is happening in each shot. After finishing and presenting this project we began to work on turning our pictures into film. We set up the tripod and filmed, roughly following the picture guidelines that we had set for ourselves. After this, we took the videos into Adobe Premier Pro and edited, adding music to go along with it too. We all went at this professionally, varying up the jobs between each other. Angilee worked with the camera, taking the pictures and videos. Miles stayed in front of the camera and worked as our actor. I helped set up the scenes and direct what was happening. All three of us edited what we took and created our own final products. I believe that my video turned out well, though it was hard to fit everything in 30 seconds. There are a few things I could've tweaked to make the video flow easier, and after presenting to the class and getting feedback, I did change these things. These included establishing a better beginning, middle, and end, switching a clip with another to make more sense, and add a title to the video, but all in all I think the project turned out well and was a good introduction into filming and editing. I'm excited to continue to shoot and edit more of these.  :)

Sidewalk Chalk

Brainstorming ideas

Adding finishing touches
I enjoyed the sidewalk chalk team building activity that all students in E-Comm took part in. It was a fun way to express our creativity with one another. My team started by brainstorming different symbols that we could add to the flag that meant something to each of us. We then took our ideas to action and started drawing them out with the sidewalk chalk (right). Each person drew their own symbol and then our whole team worked on coloring it in .
Making our design
Finished product!
Everyone in my group collaborated well together and completed everything as a team. We all decided to make one large scene with the chalk using our symbols we picked out. I believe this plan worked because our flag turned out to look pretty good! It was a fun experience and I was happy to get to know some kids in different e9 classes.
